Donate to the Historical Society

Supporting the past with the future~ “The only reason there is something here to find is because someone else left something behind”

The Society was organized by members of the Pacific County Pioneer Association in 1949, and the Museum was established in 1970. Currently located in the county seat of South Bend, the Museum houses the Society’s permanent collection as well as temporary displays related to county history. The Society actively collects records and items related to Pacific County History. These unique collections attract hundreds of researchers. By becoming partners with the Society, you can help uphold its mission and fulfill its responsibility to preserve Pacific County’s heritage for future generations.

There are a number of gift planning options that can help you realize your goal to ensure the future of the PCHS. By making a planned gift to the Society, you are also eligible for membership.

Please see your attorney, tax advisor, or IRA Administrator for specific advice on the various planned giving options.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss your options, please contact us at museum@willapabay.org.

Donate by Bequest

Bequests are the single most popular form of planned gifts and one of the easiest to make. Your bequest may be in the form of cash, securities, real estate, tagible personal property, or other assets. Here is the basic information you and your lawyer need to make a bequest to the Pacific County Historical Society: sample bequest language, the legal name and address of the Pacific County Historical Society, and our Federal Tax Identification Number. You may provide for the Pacific County Historical Society by creating a new will, adding a codicil to your present will, or including the Society in your revocable Trust.

Bequest language: (when preparing your will, please show the following wording to your attorney, who can adapt it to your needs): Other

I, [name], of [city, state, zip], hereby give, devise, and bequeath to the Pacific County Historical Society the sum of [or percentage of the estate or description of property].

(You may add a codicil to include the PCHS in an existing will with a minimum of expense. Your attorney can adapt the language below in a form that will be legally effective to accomplish your desired end):

I, [name and address] declare this to be a codicil to the Will executed by me on [date and year], this codicil being as follows:

I hereby give, devise and bequeath to the Pacific County Historical Society the sum of [or the following percentage of my net residuary estate or the following described property].

Legal Name: Pacific County Historical Society

Contributions from IRA Accounts

Donors 70 1/2 or older can make gifts of up to $100,000 to the Pacific County Historical Society and other charities directly from their IRAs, without including the IRA withdrawal in their taxable income. This provision is part of the Pension Protection Act of 2006. This is a great way to support the museum and ensure that it continues to thrive for years to come.

Charitable Gift Annuity

This kind of annuity offers a steady, guaranteed income for up to two individuals age 70 or older. Rates, which are determined by the recipient’s age, are fixed when the gift is given and percentage range of the gift amount.

Charitable Remainder Trust

Stocks, real estate, or other assets form the basis of a trust that is managed by the PCHS and gives the donor, or anyone the Donor designates, quarterly payments for life or a set period. The payment can be fixed or variable, and the PCHS receives the balance-the “charitable remainder”-when the trust closes.
